There are cemeteries associated with the Synagogues in the Muziris region, important among them is the one in Kottayil Kovilakam, near the Chendamangalam synagogue. Chendamangalam, under the Paliath Achans, was a model of religious tolerance. It is one of the unique places in India where places of worship from the four major religions, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism and Judaism exist within a short distance of each other. According to Jewish belief, the dead rests in the cemetery. So till the resurrection day the graves should be protected, thus goes their belief.
